History/Overview
Since 2019, the Kia Niro PHEV has served drivers keen on this car’s compelling combination of station-wagon practicality and plug-in hybrid tech, which makes it an excellent all-rounder in today’s electrified vehicle marketplace. The 2022 Kia Niro PHEV is unchanged save for some pricing adjustments.
Available Trims
The Kia Niro PHEV is available in EX, EX Premium, and SX Touring trim levels. Power is from a 1.6L four-cylinder engine and electric motor, which are mated to a six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
Standard Features
Niro PHEV EX comes with 16-inch alloy wheels, fog lights, LED taillights, a sunroof, power-folding side mirrors, heated front seats and steering wheel, an 8.0-inch touchscreen, dual-zone A/C, wireless phone charging, auto-dimming rearview mirror, a digital gauge display, and passive keyless entry. EX’s safety features include blind spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert.
EX Premium gains a power driver’s seat, adaptive cruise control, electric parking brake, lane keep/follow assist, driver attention alert, and forward collision avoidance assist.
SX Touring adds LED headlights/fog lights, leather upholstery, heated rear/ventilated front seats, a 10.25-inch touchscreen, a premium stereo, a 110-volt power outlet, and front and rear parking sensors.
Fuel Economy
Kia’s fuel consumption estimates for the Niro PHEV are 4.9/5.3 L/100 km (city/highway) when running as a gas-electric hybrid, and 2.2 Le/100 km in pure electric mode. Kia says the Niro PHEV is capable of 42 km of EV driving on a fully charged battery.
Competition
The Niro PHEV is Kia’s sole compact plug-in hybrid vehicle for 2022. It competes with the Toyota Prius Prime, the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV, and the Hyundai Tucson PHEV.
